Barnardos’ Training and Resource Service e-newsletter gives information on a number of new Publications, listed below.
The 2nd Edition of “Legislation handbook for Childcare Providers” is now available priced €10 + €1.50 P&P. The book is intended to act as a guide to the various sectors in Ireland. For childcare providers, it is crucial that knowledge of relevant legislation is up-to-date and comprehensive, ensuring that the service operates effectively and in accordance with the law. The Handbook, published jointly by Barnardos Training and Resource Service and Border Counties Childcare Network, is divided into sections with a quick reference guide which lists the key areas of legislation along with an indication of who the legislation applies to and a listing of useful contacts or sources of further information.
Also coming soon is “Supporting Quality: Guidelines for Professional Practice in Early Childhood Services (3rd Edition)”, a substantial revision and expansion of the original text. The publication has been divided into two books, entitled “Policy & Governance” and “Enhancing Children’s Learning and Development”. Book 1 sets out the political, social and economic context, some of the most recent and significant policy developments and the positioning of ECEC in Ireland. It also considers legislation, regulation, health and welfare and finally focuses on leadership, policies, procedures and human resources. Book 2 sets out the broad context for supporting early learning and goes on to outline how to observe, assess and plan for children’s early learning. Book 1 will be available from Barnardos in June with Book 2 out in September. Each book costs €20 with a special price of €35 when both books are bought together.
A new book and accompanying CD focusing on Policies
in Childcare will be available in early summer from Barnardos at a cost of €20. It intends to assist childcare services in the development of clear written policies and procedures. Guidelines are provided on development, implementation and review of these policies. The importance of equality and diversity is covered as well as methods for communicating policies to parents. The CD includes templates that can be downloaded onto the user’s PC or Mac and then adapted to suit each individual service.
